There is a limit to army's remaining apolitical. After that, it would become complicit in destroying the state willfully along with the political gangsters.
Pakistan army chief is in US at the moment, his first visit after taking charge of the most powerful army of the Muslim world. There is NO doubt that from now on, Pak army will be exerting itself more and more into the national security affairs - both domestically and at the international levels. There is also no doubt that NS government is losing image, credibility, respect and control by the day - both domestically and internationally.
Pak army will have to decide the red line of incompetence for the political government; else this political and economic collapse will destroy the whole fiber of the state and the nation. There is a limit to army's remaining apolitical. After that, it would become complicit in destroying the state willfully along with the political gangsters. Army surely does not want to be seen as guilty in this crime.
The present leadership of the army and the ISI is a fresh breeze of hope for the nation in these very dangerous times. So far, all their moves have unnerved the enemies and given confidence boost to the patriots. The direction, tone and the demeanor is absolutely correct for the army so far.
Next two weeks would be chaotic once again. Sunday night, Imran is
mobilizing his troops just two hours from Islamabad, in the city of Jehlum. Nervousness has begun to descend upon the government once again. In panic, the government may resort to extreme measures of arresting IK and using force to stop his protest on 30th. That would further aggravate the crisis and would open the field once again for the army to decide their next course of action.
Nawaz is stuck between a rock and a hard place. If he uses force to stop the political protests, he opens the path for the army to dislodge him. If he allows the protests to come to Islamabad, he open the way for the opposition to overrun him. Dammed if you don't, Dammed if you do!
